FAQ:   Will I be able to bring my dog to the reservoir?

When the reservoir opens to the public with trails and such, dogs will be welcomed!  Please know that all dogs will be required to be on leash. This decision is one that is necessary as RHR is a drinking water reservoir and no animals will be allowed to swim.

FAQ:   Will I be able to ride my horse at the reservoir?

Horses will be specifically excluded from the reservoir area.  However, trails that will be available on the north side of Hess Road (away from the reservoir) will eventually be open to horseback riding.

FAQ:   Why all of the concern about animals in or at the reservoir?

Rueter-Hess is a little unique compared to other reservoirs, as there is no river or stream constantly running through it which would help keep it "fresh". The water is pumped into the reservoir, where it “sits” (kind of like a bathtub), and is only released directly to our water treatment plant, then distributed to our customers.

In case you haven't heard, the Town of Parker has recently opened a dog park:  I haven't personally been there, but thought it might give you another option.
